Why I am a Chiropractor

The Midwest is known for its extreme weather.  Spring is filled with many tornado watches or warnings.  Only on May 15, 1998 it was not just a warning. I was actually in a tornado.  I was hit with flying objects and I had to spend the night inthe hospital.

One may ask how I could have survived such an ordeal.  Believe me, I ask that same question every day.   My guardian angel must have been working extra diligently that day because I did not suffer any life-threatening injuries. I had bumps, bruises, scrapes and cuts all over our bodies.  I also had a slight concussion and a cut on my left arm that needed three stitches to close.  I had come face-to-face with a tornado and lived to tell about it.

It probably goes without saying that I was in the worst pain of my life - on many levels.  The physical pain was almost to the point of being unbearable.  The emotional shock was severe.  For a very long time, after the storm, my heart would race and my stomach would churn whenever I felt a strong breeze against my skin.  The spiritual torment was the worst.  I had always believed that I was a good person and that bad things should not happen to good people. Why did this happen?  Why was I not killed by the tornado?  What should I do now?  Where is my life going?

The tornado happened on a Friday evening.  On Monday afternoon I visited a Chiropractor.  It was very painful to even walk into the Chiropractor's ofice.  After receiving my first Chiropractic adjustment, I was amazed how great I felt.  That was the beginning of my healing journey -physically, emotionally and spiritually.  The physical trauma that I endured took about two years of regular Chiropractic adjustments before I was back to what felt like "normal".  The emotional shock did not take as long to heal.  The spiritual torment began to heal after my first Chiropractic adjustment.  That first adjustment helped me regain hope and gave me my calling in life – to help others through Chiropractic.
